A physical examination is the best way for a provider to interpret health facts immediately.

To ensure good general health the physical examination is recommended for all patients not just those who are experiencing symptoms. Many patients may not always experience a symptom when something is wrong. For example a patient may not be aware that they have high blood pressure.

The exam will include checking over patient’s vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure and weight as well as physically going over the patient’s body from head to toe. The provider will talk to the patient about their medical and family history for signs of possible risk factors in health. The Doctor may also want to do a more comprehensive exam by ordering a pulmonary function test, EKG, xray and lab work to test blood and urine.
