New Jersey Telehealth Laws 2025
- Telehealth Technology Standards: Telehealth must use secure, real-time, two-way communication like video calls. Store-and-forward (asynchronous) technology is allowed only if the provider can deliver care equal to an in-person visit and informs the patient upfront.
 - Patient and Provider Location Flexibility: Patients can receive telehealth urgent care in NJ from anywhere. Providers licensed in New Jersey can deliver services remotely. Recent law (Senate Bill 1597, 2024) allows out-of-state providers licensed in New Jersey to treat New Jersey patients via telehealth.
 - Medical Records and Documentation: Providers must document telehealth visits and include notes in the patient’s medical record to ensure continuity of care.
 - Telehealth Organization Registration: All telehealth providers operating in New Jersey must register with the New Jersey Department of Health.
Parity in - Reimbursement: New Jersey law (Public Law 2024, Chapter 105) requires health plans, including Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare, to reimburse telehealth services at the same rate as in-person visits through July 1, 2026. This does not apply to Medicare and excludes audio-only visits except for behavioral health.
