we’re here to Answer all your questions

The Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is a mandatory examination that must be completed in order to obtain a commercial driver’s license. This comprehensive evaluation is designed to assess your overall health and ensure that you are physically capable of meeting the rigorous demands associated with being a commercial driver.

If you meet any of the following criteria, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) mandates that you undergo a DOT physical:

– Operate vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) exceeding 10,000 pounds
– Drive vehicles designed to transport more than 15 passengers
– Transport hazardous materials and display a hazmat placard
– Are employed as a driver of a vehicle carrying more than eight passengers

Upon successfully completing the required examination, you will receive a certification that allows you to drive commercially for a duration of two years. However, if you have a chronic health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, it may necessitate more frequent checkups as part of the ongoing evaluation process.

During DOT physicals at AZZ Medical Associates, the following components are included:

Thorough health history assessment

Your provider will inquire about your medical history and lifestyle habits, such as chronic health conditions, tobacco or alcohol use, and any prescription medications or supplements you take.

Comprehensive physical examination

A complete physical examination will be conducted by your provider. This includes measuring your blood pressure, testing your reflexes, evaluating your hearing, vision, and other relevant health indicators. If you have any specific concerns or unusual symptoms, it is important to discuss them during this examination.

Laboratory tests

Your doctor will order laboratory tests, including bloodwork and urinalysis. These tests are conducted to screen for conditions such as high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and other underlying health issues. Depending on your age and medical history, additional tests like an electrocardiogram (EKG) may be recommended.

At the conclusion of your DOT physical, your provider will complete the necessary form that you can submit to your employer.

To ensure a smooth and efficient DOT physical at AZZ Medical Associates, please remember to bring the following information with you:

Recent lab test results
A list of the prescription medications you are currently taking, including the names and dosages
Any necessary eyeglasses and/or hearing aids
If you have diabetes or sleep apnea, it is advisable to bring relevant medical records from specialists.

By preparing and bringing these items, you can help expedite the process and ensure a successful visit. Contact your nearest AZZ Medical Associates office today to schedule your DOT physical or conveniently book your appointment online.
